WASH Telethon Campaign Project, Ashtarlai District of Daikundi Province-2018

The WASH Telethon Campaign Program was implemented in Ashtarlai district of Daikundi province with the financial support of NCA. The program included four main components;

  • Water Supply Services
  • Community Lead Total Sanitation (CLTS)
  • Hygiene Promotion
  • Establishment of WASH Committees and Capacity Development of Staff

The (CLTS) was implemented in six villages of Ashterlai district of Daikundi province as; Sabzposahan lawran, Daima, Safeed Sang, Seiagag, Karamzar, Uzbak villages. The project aims included to prevent open defecation and promoting construction of latrines among the communities.

The Hygiene Promotion activities were implemented in 6 villages of Ashterlai district at the same villages which participated 2,034 beneficiaries equivalent to 327 families.

Under the project CAWC employee a team of hygiene promoter was focused on Hygiene promotion through PHAST and CHAST: to ensure that there is no slippage (community does not go back to older practices) and there is improvement in hygiene behaviors and sanitation practices, Hygiene promotion of the triggered communities through Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (PHAST) and Child Hygiene and Sanitation Training (CHAST) was used as a follow-up tool.

For the sustainability of the project, WASH committees were established per community with an average of 10 members from each community and trained in the selected communities. Under the establishment, the WASH committees will be registered with local government and provincial department of rural rehabilitation and development who has the responsibility of establishment of WASH committees.
