Establishment of Pipe Scheme in Returnee Township Bamyan-2018

The project was implemented with the financial support of UNHCR to provided safe sustainable drinking water for the returnee families living in the Bamyan Returnee Township (Dasht-e-Qashqa) that was designed and allocated by the local government, for residency of 599 returnee families. The safe drinking water provided through establishment of motorized pipe scheme in the township using water pump powered by solar panel energy. The main intervention and activities through this project are summarized as below:

  • Digging water well in downside of the Township, near to the Bamyan river, as source of drinking water which  shot through motorized pipe scheme to the reservoir and by then distributed to the families.
  • Construction of reservoir with 90 cubic meters’ capacity, which was constructed for storing the water from well/s, and distributed to the families.
  • Established of piping channel with capacity of providing safe drinking water for all the families which were living in the township.
  • Totally, 85 public tab stations were constructed for 599 families, two/three tab stations for each block (street). The location was selected in the place where all the families should have easy access to the water point.
  • Installed solar panel, 80 sheets of 250W, on the appropriate place on the hill and protecting them by using fencing net and GI pips.
  • For operation and management of the pipe scheme and taking care of the project after completion, one WASH Committee was established from among the families living in the town, including women as key members of the committee.
