Water Supply and Latrines
Access to safe drinking water is a human right. However, millions of people in Afghanistan do not have access to safe water due to the intensification of drought in recent years. As a result, people use water that is contaminated with pathogens and majority of them, especially, children suffer from diseases such as cholera and diarrhea.
To provide safe drinking water for vulnerable communities, we have implemented more than 20 WASH projects in Samangan, Daikondi, Bamiyan, and other provinces by constructing water supply networks and latrines to provide appropriately sited and safe water and build healthier and more resilient communities. These water networks are fed through the existing springs’ water and new wells dug in the targeted villages.
To improve the sustainability of projects, we engage community members in the design, and implementation of projects, establish WASH committees, and train them for the maintenance of water supply networks.
